Monday afternoon I received my MacBook Pro from Apple (delivered by UPS) which I ordered just less then two weeks ago. I am sure that some of you are probably thinking “Haha sucker! You ordered an old MacBook Pro since last week they launched there new MacBook Pro family.” Well if you are thinking this you are right. However, now it is time for me to laugh at you because Apple switched my order of an old MacBook Pro to one of the new.
The custom configuration for my MacBook Pro is:
- 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 Processor
- 4 GB 1066MHZ DDR3 SDRM (2 x 2GB)
- 500 GB Serial ATA Drive with 7200 RMP
- SuperDrive 8X DL
- 17 inch Antiglare display
With my MacBook Pro order, I also order the Magic Mouse and a sleeve. My comment regarding this Magic Mouse is that I absolutely love it and PC Hardware Manufactures such as Logitech should come up with a mouse similar with the touch technology as it is an amazing feature! However, I am quite disappointed in Apple regarding the sleeve that I ordered. The reason is regarding the size of the box that it was sent in. The box’s size is approximately 2.5 feet by 1.5 feet by 1.5 feet. So why is this a disappointment. Well, it is because it was filled with paper except my small little sleep at the bottom of the box which could have fit in a much smaller box. ( Apple, are you environmentally friendly? … It appears you are not. )
With just over a day of having it and using it for just around a total eight hours so far, my first impressions are WOW. However, not all will I say WOW about as I am a PC oriented person and always have been. With saying that, you must remember that I expect certain keyboard short cuts just to do what Windows would do, etc. Overall I am very pleased with my MacBook Pro and Mac OS.
On a side note, a professor recently told me that it was impossible to change the root password for the Mac OS. Well, he is very incorrect (unless I am missing something here… which I do not think I am).
To change the root password on your Mac OS, open up the terminal window by going to the Finder > Applications > Utilities > Terminal. Once the terminal window is opened, type:
sudo passwd
You will then be asked for a password which simply just type your user account password (assuming you have administrative permissions). After which, you will be asked to enter a new password and confirm it; so do so.
Now to login with root access, simply type su and press enter in the terminal. You will be asked for your password so enter it.
Note: To log out of terminal session, type exit.
Anyways, I do apologize for not posting any new articles within the past couple of days or so. I have been extremely busy with finishing up this semester of school and client work. I will be posting a lot of new articles over the next couple of weeks to stay tuned!

I was totally waiting for this
I just got my MacBook Pro last night! i7 Core as well, but only the 15″. I got 8gb of RAM though, just to be safe after hating life with the 2gb in my last one.
Hope yours is treating you as well as mine is so far, and not overheating like I’ve heard a few of them have been doing.
Cheers
@Carson Shold
Yes. Mine is treating me very well and definitely not over heating. I was a bit concerned also when I heard that to from others via the web.
However, on a side note – I haven’t used it as much. I do a lot of my development work on my PC.
