Lately I have found that my Internet Service provided by Rogers has been very inconsistent and a lot of down time. Unfortunately, there is not a lot that can be done on the consumer end except to switch to another provider such as Bell. However, in saying that – I have recently decided to switch and start using Google’s DNS as my primary and alternative DNS servers instead of the ones provided byRogers. Why have I done this? Well I have done this simply because it removes the inconsistency of Rogers’ DNS taking forever to resolve domain names, etc.
Since I have been having this problem and I know that a few others within the London Ontario community have also (from what I have seen on Twitter), I have decided to post and share this information with you also.
Google has two primary Domain Name Server IP Addresses that can be used as a primary and alternative DNS. They are:
- Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8
- Alternative DNS: 8.8.4.4

Thanks Aaron – this is working well!
I am glad I could help!
One thing I found really weird was that today while I was at the college, I was unable to resolve I was unable to access anything within the college network when using these DNS servers. However, I was able to access everything outside of the college very easily.
Anyways, hope all is well!
You could always switch to teksavvy, tell them Sean Sandy sent you
.
Ah! Yes, Yes I could switch couldn’t I.
I have most definitely thought about it that is for sure. Until I start seeing Rogers inject data into areas I do not believe they should be (such as: http://compsci.ca/blog/internet-protocols-could-be-facing-a-siege-from-isps/ ) then I will most likely stay with them instead of switching all services to an new provider.
I will most definitely look into Teksavvy though.
Thanks for sharing, this is very useful.
Maybe you should edit the webpage subject Rogers inconsistency leads to the use of Google's DNS – Aaron McGowan to something more catching for your blog post you create. I liked the the writing however.
@Team Roster: I do believe it is.
