On the weekend of September 25, 2010, one of London’s newest non-profit organizations, unLondon, will host our first Open Data hackathon.

But what is a hackathon? No, we will not be breaking into computer systems, but instead, collaborating and creating one of London’s most demanding open data applications – London Trash. Google’s definition of a hackathon is:

A hackathon, a hacker neologism, is an event when programmers meet to do collaborative computer programming. These events are typically between several days and a week in length…

The hackathon will include a lot of caffeine, Doritos, lots of laughs and generally a great time with good company. Did I mention it will also include a lot of programming and user interface design as well? Well it does.

We are looking and searching for anyone who would like to help out which will include:

  • Programmers
  • Graphic Designers, UI and UX Experts
  • Many many more people

Open Data London has setup a PB Wiki at http://londontrash.pbworks.com/ which will allow us to start collaborating and sharing ideas for the hackathon.

Please keep this date in mind as we look forward to the participation by many and I am personally looking forward to seeing what we can come up.
