Last week I announced the second version of NextStop – London Transit Guide in which I stated that there would be a mobile web application available for the smart phones.

This morning, I have made accessible to the public the mobile web application for Apple’s iPhone for BETA testing. This is only the start and many features are not included yet within it. Over the next week, many new features for this app will be made available to the public after additional testing is completed. The new features will include the following:

  • Current locations of a specific route’s buses
  • Locations of a specific route’s major stops
  • A visual of a route’s route.
  • A complete mashup of all mappable data
  • Live Arrival Times
  • Route Feedback, Complaints and Reporting
  • Closest Bus Stop (to the user’s location)
  • Routes currently being Detoured
  • London Transit Commission (LTC) Data Availability Notification
  • Is Route Accessible status information - Feature suggested by Jeff Preston

Please note that the list of features above that have been bolded are the features that are currently available to the public. Over the course of the next week, additional features will be made available.

The BETA version of the mobile web app will be available to the public until the week of September 13, 2010. After which, the BETA will be moved into a live production environment which access will be available to all via the http://www.nextstopapp.com/. Once all apps are made available and moved into the live production environment, as promised, the application will be released under an Open Source and/or a Creative Commons license allowing others to download and use the source code.

  • Map Reset. The center of the map should be reset based on the user’s location and or the data that is plotted onto the map.
